Telomere Testing - Repeat Diagnostics
Repeat Diagnostics is a Vancouver, Canada based company that provides state-of-the-art laboratory testing of Telomere Length Measurement in relation to age-matched controls. Repeat Diagnostics are the first and only laboratory providing cell-type specific Telomere Length Measurement.
As noted in the previous section on Theories of Aging, Telomeres are protective caps located at the ends of our chromosomes. These telomeres shorten each time a cell divides. When the the telomere gets short enough, the cell loses it's capacity to regenerate and stops dividing. Over time, this process of progressive cell loss results in many of the manifestations we equate with aging.
Why Test Telomere Length?
As previously mentioned, the loss of Telomere length can be slowed or even reversed by an enzyme called Telomerase. Telomerase can help maintain or even increase telomere length, thereby prolonging the ability of the cell to continue dividing. Telomere Length testing can provide a good baseline assessment of telomere length to guage the effectiveness of telomerase activation, diet and nutritional supplementation as a means to slow or even reverse the cellular aging process.
The DETAILED Telomere Length Test requires a simple blood test, performed in our office, providing a measurement of telomere length for total lymphocyte and granulocyte populations as well as B-cells, T-cells and NK cells (White Blood Cells and Immune System Cells).
